2020 Fall Season Update : 6/23/2020

Good Afternoon SVGSA Families,

We wanted to reach out to provide you with an update as we move forward in the summer and fall months. Last week SVGSA received an email from BCGSL informing the association that the county would be pushing forward with implementing a fall season now that Berks will be entering the Green Phase as of Friday, June 26th. We as an association are very excited about getting the girls back out onto the softball fields. With that being said, before that can happen a lot of things will need to be put in place first.

The biggest thing that we as a board will need to do is develop our COVID-19 safety plan. The plan will cover procedures and protocols that SVGSA will be implementing moving forward in the fall season. This plan will be developed based on CDC recommendations for youth sports and additional recommendations that may come from BCGSL.

In addition to developing our safety plan we need to start getting a more solid idea of our player numbers so we can see what age group teams we can offer. One of the recommendations from the CDC to help promote social distancing is keeping teams small. SVGSA will be moving into the fall season implementing this protocol. As a result, teams will be made up of 10 - 12 girls instead of 14, 15 or even 16. The positive of this decision, is this will increase playing time on the field and the number at bats in a game with limited bench time. This is also necessary to help SVGSA meet CDC recommendations. But, it also means all girls on a team roster will need to be committed to their team during the season since there will not be extra players on the roster to fill player absences.

So, what SVGSA is asking of our families at this point is to please "verbally register" your daughter for the fall season if they are going to play this fall season. We understand that there are multiple other activities taking place during the fall  ( field hockey, soccer, cheer, dance, etc.) but we need to know if your daughter will be playing fall softball this year and what her level of commitment will be towards softball for the fall. Meaning are they doing multiple activities that could affect their commitment to softball. We understand that we asked what your daughter's interest was for the fall back in May, but we now need more of a definitive decision.  At this point, practice days have not yet been decided and game schedules have not been established, but with new safety protocols that will be implemented it will be extremely difficult for coaches and the association to juggle multiple activity schedules. SVGSA is not saying players can not do multiple activities, but SVGSA will need to know other commitments soon as it may determine age group team offerings as well as player assignment.

Please "verbally registered" you daughter by replying back to SVGSA by Friday, July 10th. Please include your daughter's name (first/last) and their commitment level in the fall.  At this point SVGSA is still discussing registration fees for the fall season. There will be no uniform costs this season as we hope to utilize our Spring jerseys, but SVGSA still needs to look at additional costs and fees facing the association to ensure our safety plan and other CDC recommendations are being followed. Once we establish a fee for the fall we will reach out to all our families who "verbally registered" to complete additional paperwork and submit payment.

If you have any additional questions regarding the fall, please contact Lindsay Eisenhower at 610-781-7974. You may either call or text. Or you can email SVGSA.

Thank you for your time and support.
